Cracking the performance code: technical briefing
we use data derived from a survey of 3,000 UK businesses to test for relationships between intangibles, such as strategy and corporate objectives, and productivity. Building on an established, but disparate, body of empirical work, we find that there is a link between bundles of complementary strategies and productivity, but not typically any impact from individual strategies, or non-aligned strategies, either within, or across, functional areas of strategic decision-making within the business. The ‘typical’ business is only 2/3rds aligned across its range of strategic decisions.
